First, you didn't hear it; you read it. Second, I know 100s of folks who carry. All boast of it and, sadly, all cite times during which they felt compelled to flash their piece to ward off some mysterious threat. The real irony? I'm with many of them often and have never felt threatened enough to need a weapon. Walking the other way (metaphorically) works every time.

You'll pardon me if I call you full of shit. You don't know hundreds of people that carry, and they certainly all don't boast about flashing their piece. More likely, you're just another ignorant liberal who stereotypes everybody who owns a gun... and not surprisingly, has a naive worldview.

I'm not a liberal in the sense you imply, but thanks for playing. "All" flash is certainly hyperbolic in nature and an obvious exaggeration. I grew up on a farm and have discharged weapons for sport and out of necessity plenty. I'm not squeamish about it , nor do I begrudge folks their right to own one. In my family's case, it was necessary to protect and manage livestock. I just tire of the constant refrain my the vast majority of gun owners that:
1) They're safer because they carry - they're not 2) Gun ownership reduces crime - it does not
You and I can agree to disagree on this and it won't hurt my feelings a bit. Again, it's your right to own/carry. It's my right to parody the majority of paranoid idiots who do carry and to ensure inconvenient facts stay in the way of their narrative.

Gun ownership does reduce crime. That's a fact. And I don't care what you want to call yourself, your extremely flawed view of people that carry and carrying in general reveals you as a liberal. Your theory that "walking the other way" solves ever problem reveals you as both a liberal and naive.
Just because you grew up in a rural area and have never had a need for protection doesn't mean other people don't have legitimate and necessary reasons for doing so. So you're narrow-minded on top of all that.

BhamDawg; this is going to sound crazy, I lived in Alabama my entire life and never heard of this, but you do not need a weapons license to open-carry in Alabama. It sounds absurd but it is true.
If you want to, you can walk around anywhere in Alabama with a pistol on your hip as long as it is in a holster, not concealed, and in an area or business that does not have signs prohibiting the carry of firearms. What kind of mindset a person is in to feel the need to walk around with a pistol strapped to their hip, I do not know.
