The Falcons just cut......

  • Ray Edwards. 3.5 sacks in 25 games in a Falcons uniform.

  • It's more a move as a "message" to the team than anything.
It's saying that no one's job is safe. It's a reminder that "getting to the playoffs" is not acceptable.

    This is a message move.
    We'll see if it works.

That's drastic, they must have seen something in film review that did not sit well with the coaches. Typically I would think it clear cut lack of effort. Otherwise I'd say he missed or was late to a meeting he knew he had to be there and on time.

  • THANK CHRIST! I knew he was a bust, I called it forever ago. I suppose DE will be a major priority in this years draft. However the new D coordinator likes to mix in some 3-4 looks, so depends on how they are leaning. Anyone like to speculate on who they take? The predator is gaining some age. I liked their draft last year with the O line pics. Not a sexy draft, but it was a good one IMO. Ideally I would love for them to pick up Werner or Carradine from FSU. Beer-man is a little undersized and doesn't have those "freak" attributes you typically look for in a pro 4-3 DE. Anyway... Thoughts?

Cutting a guy because he's late to a meeting seems drastic.
The purpose being more of a message to the rest of the team that, "this boat ain't safe". Shape up or pack your bags.

There may have been something tangible other than the loss to the Aints like you mention. But the end impression left on the rest of the team is the same.
Who knows... this may galvanize the team similar to Shawn Williams' very public comments.

Those guys may go in the first round and we don't have a first round pick this year do we? I thought we got rid of it when we traded up for julio...? Maybe they'll fall in the draft or we can make some moves.

  • 1. Yes we have all our draft picks this year
    2. ATL has been very very good with it's free agent pick up's. Edwards was the top free agent DE and we got him at a really good price. Most people were shocked. I wanted Charles Johnson to come back home to Georgia and play for his home team.
    3. The Falcons have never just cut like this. Something happened IMO.

They cut the OC and DC last offseason.

    SSDD.

  • IMO we need a back to replace turner just too slow to the hole. A TE of course maybe a couple o linemen. would love to add another wr and de

    dawg4life21

  • Im def ready to see turner hit the road.. he was good a few years ago but not anymore. There aren't any really good RB's coming out this year that I can think of.. monty ball? What about free agent backs? I would like to see us get the TE from notre dame this year.

Yes indeed we do have all of our picks this year. We lost 1st and 4th last year for julio. We are completely open this year with all of our picks. I wonder if him being released will have a negative effect on our cap space though. I don't remember the exact numbers of his contract and what was guaranteed. Although the year to get a DE was the year we agressively made moves to get Julio, IMO. There were easily 9 DE's in the first round for that draft. I personally would have rather us made a move on JJ Watt that year, as we already had a pro bowl receiver in White. Carradine isn't a sure fire first rounder this year so maybe we could snag him at a steal. Falcons need quality pass rush to be groomed as a replacement for Abraham, not only that, unfortunately they needed Edwards and expected him to be the other piece to that puzzle. So now they might make a move for more pass rushing D players.

The Falcons cut their FB last week, too (Polite). He was the starter heading into the Dallas game, I believe.

I have to respectfully disagree babin and Johnson were the top 2 free agent DE's that year. Hands down.

Think they feel confident with that rook they got outta WI to move into a starting role? Believe we snagged him in the 5th last year, because that makes the second we would have released this year after ovie.

Turner came into camp heavy this season. He hasn't been himself lately, but the only decent backs this year are Ball and that kid out of NC. I personally don't think they go after one in this draft. Quizz and Turner will probably be ok til next draft, or they might make a move for a free agent. Even though I don't think any worth a damn will be at the end of their contract this year.

He would be the starter if he hadn't blew out his knee. Turner hasn't been the same since Ovie left

So 35 tackles this year and 2 sacks makes the Beer-man a commodity this season? Don't see your logic on this one. I think Kroy is an adequate back up not a permanent solution.

True Turner has never been in an offense that didn't have an outstanding FB. Even that one at SD was great before ATL picked him up. Like pro bowler good.
