hahaha, yep i hear you tag. i suspect that downhill running is a part of plan A, and in fact a pretty important part of it.
oddly enough, both LSU and TAMU were more successful between the tackles than when they ran laterally. that LSU line was pretty banged up, too. though depriest and nico johnson are not the swiftest ILBs, their defense as a whole flows to the ball so well that i just don't think the shotgun sweeps will work consistently, and when they don't work we're looking at 2nd and 13. however, i do think if we can consistently hammer it for 2-3 yards on first down and get into manageable down and distance, that will be enough to make play-action credible and give us the shots down the field that we're going to need.

LSU rushed the ball 49 times against bama for 139 yards. They hurt is by converting long, pivotal tgird downs. They werent really successful on the ground but converting third downs allowed them to stay 2d.
A&M jumped on bama early and had over 200 yards in the first quarter. They did get to a hundred yards rushing but 92 came from manziel and most of that off of two runs.
I said all of that to say that the key against bama is being able to stay balanced and keeping the D on their toes. I just hpe Bama doesnt continue to out coach ourselves by passing too much.

Agree, but to be fair its 139 rushing plus the yards from mett being sacked 4 times. I watched the game, and they ran it well enough for mett to have chances to get downfield. Hill ran for 100 plus, and the reason they were able to convert third down is because they stuck with the run on first and second downs and had 3rd and manageable. I agree with you that balance is key; this is precisely why we need to stick with the run, stay patient, and keep play action viable so we can hit it downfield when the opportunity is there. No one is thinking that we're gonna hammer it on the ground for 200 plus or something. 2nd and 7 is a good thing against bama's front 7. We need to run it well ENOUGH to run our full offense, and that's it.
