Tour Guide of Athens for a Gamecock

  • Gamecock here. Me and the gf are heading down Friday to kick the weekend off. This will be my second time in Athens, but my first staying over a couple nights. I was wondering if you guys would be kind enough to give a fellow SEC brother a run down of y'alls fine city. Maybe recommend a few good restaurants or bars for before and after the game. I have been downtown Athens before, it was a blast, but the memories are kinda hazy. I'll be staying about 1 mile from Sanford and I'm in my mid 20's (figure that info may help some when recommending places.) Thanks in advanced for the help. Good luck to y'all and here's hoping for an exciting weekend no matter what the outcome! Is it Saturday yet?

  • Hey Jet. If you just go to the downtown area and walk around their are plenty of bars and restaurants all around. I haven't been around Athens much lately but I doubt it has changed to much. I hope y'all have a good visit. Other than the game of course

Go onto dawgsnightlife.com it will give you the names of some of the best bars downtown.

  • Lots of great places downtown. Either to sit and drink or to dance the night away. Your choice. As to food that is also wide open. Plus afterwards, you can hit the Grill for Waffle House food open 24 hours. I like The Winery on Broad Street and The Taco Stand and Bourbon Street.

Life's tough, but it is tougher if you're stupid.

Last Resort is always a winner and one of the best burger joints I've ever been to is Clocked located on Washington St.

Those places Dawgpound mentioned are definitely some of the best places downtown. Try the cuban sandwich at Cali n Tito's on Lumpkin next to the track. Best sandwich in town. Blind pig tavern has good bar food, Wilson's Soulfood or Weever d's for southern fare.Casa Mia is a tapas joint that's pretty good too. As far as bars go, one is as good as the other. Copper Creek has micro brews, but other than that they are all the same.
