The following were Kirk Herbstreits projections for conference championships and the national title game. He landed the ACC (only one correct) and SEC Champions. I'll give him the tiebreaker on the Boise pick because that was a three way tie, but he missed on the rest. Either it was a crazy year or he didn't do a whole lot of research. Had USM as the Conference USA Champ (0-12). Florida State as the National Champion (finished outside the Top 10). USC in the title game (had 5 losses). Michigan State and Pitt each had 6 losses. Just found it interesting that one of the so-called experts missed this badly on his predictions.
ACC Florida State over Virginia Tech
Big 12 Oklahoma
Big East Pitt
Big Ten Michigan State over Wisconsin
Conference USA Southern Miss over SMU
MAC Ohio over Western Michigan
MW Boise State
Pac-12 USC over Oregon
SEC Alabama over Georgia
Sun Belt Florida International
WAC Louisiana Tech
NC:Florida State over USC
Its not really as easy as you think it is. So much can happen during the course of a season or even the off season that can affect your pick.. It would be interesting for someone to do this right before the start of the season next year and see how we fare.
Oh, I understand that it's not that easy, but I would have figured he would hit 50% or something along those lines. I guess there were definitely some upsets. I would have had Oregon winning the Pac 12. Without doing any research, I have no idea who I would have picked for the smaller conferences. I would have had Wisconsin beating Michigan in the Big 10. I am not sure who I would have picked between K State-Oklahoma. Wouldn't have picked Ga Tech to make the Championship game in the ACC.
People site sources all the time. Herbie says this. Phil Steele says that. Sagarin puts this team here. But they are all guesses. Even educated guesses are just guesses.
Something to think about preseason when fans site "the experts".
