Wednesday Question of the Day

  • Should fans try to recruit kids to their school on twitter or just leave them alone?

Really interested in hearing this discussion.

  • touchy question...

I personally follow some recruits to get that up-to-date commitment info. Sometimes certain recruits release that info about other players before recruiting services.

Now in regards to contact with those players on twitter, that is another thing. If you're going to contact them, I think it should only be to offer encouragement in their skills/what not. It should be neutral, not trying to force a decision, or force the NCAA into action (which apparently they wont do in regards to twitter)

all that to say...interaction with recruits on twitter should be limited if any at al has to be had

  • Leave them alone. Grown men have no business interacting with high school boys they have no connection with on twitter.

  • If you know them off twitter then fine, otherwise do not speak to high school kids or any other kids on twitter. I wouldn't even retweet IMO. I hope people don't really think they are convincing these kids to come to their school by retweeting their posts. If you do, you are being trolled.

  • Picture this.......
A big time recruit doing the hat dance, picks up the Georgia hat and says " GO DAWGS ". Then followed by, " we'll the reason I picked Georgia is because of all my followers on twitter" .
IMO I just don't see that playing out that way.

  • Kind of tough to sit back and watch other team's fans do it when your's abstain from it. Then the recruit talks about how your team isn't "showing them any love." Unless the NCAA actually does something about it, it has become part of the recruiting game.

    BTW, I don't have a Twitter account.

  • Leave them alone. If one of my sons was recruited and you contacted him. I would be very upset! Let the coaches do the recruiting!

No, it really isn't. You just don't do it. Kids say that stuff on twitter to troll people into following them. They don't care about people on twitter and they're not basing their decision off of which school has the most fans that follow them.

  • I'm with CarWashDawg and JDDawg36.

I don't see the harm in following. I don't see the harm in retweeting.
And if a recruit wants attention, I don't see the harm in responding positively.
(keep in mind that the attention is being solicited by the recruit... no different than cheering for the guy from the stands in my opinion).

The problem is that a few numbskulls will most definitely attempt to ruin it.
But so is life. A few knuckleheads attempt to ruin everything that gets big enough (see reposts of VIP information).

  • I use to try to on twitter then I realized who am I they don't care what I think. Its a waste of time. I say leave them alone

  • I do not see a problem with fans interacting with recruits bc a lot of them ask fans to "show them love." BUT, If you are tweeting a recruit everyday, you need to get a life. I follow a lot of our recruits, but I've never talk to them. I absolutely hate when fans send hateful tweets to recruits bc they decommitted or committed to another school. UGA fans on twitter have gave Henry and Priester a lot of shit after they decommitted and it was embarrassing that our fans could be that rude and hateful towards a 16-17 yr old kid.

  • I love Twitter. It's my number one place for news of all kinds as well as discussion. However, I don't like our players on it and I really don't like the way a lot of recruits are using it.

Much like anything with recruiting, it's the rogue guys who ruin it for everyone. At first, it's "come to my school" then it's "I'll be at your game tonight" and finally, it's "here's a little money to help you decide." Nearly every NCAA infraction begins with ill-advised contact. A grown man tweeting a high school kid is ill-advised at best.

I know that whole scenario above seems like I'm jumping the shark, but mark my words, the first NCAA case involving Twitter will happen soon, and it will set the precedent for every other school.

  • There are a few whacko's out there who actually call recruits and their families!

They say if the media can do it, why can't they.

The problem is there is no point in doing it. What good can come out of it? These kids think its funny how sheepish some adults can be. They say dance and grown ups dance. The kids know 100% that you don't truly give a crap about them. I have never seen a contact with a recruit on social networks that did not come from selfish reasons. The only reason people do it is to bump their college. These kids know this and some resent this.

Downvote all you want, but its time to let your personal vendetta go. its creepy how you hold grudges. That poster said he was done doing that and you still bring it up.
