I really don't mind who he picks. We are in the running for Mike Davis just as much as anyone else. It definitely will be interesting.

I think Clemson tries to pursue Gurley now more than they were before because Ellington is rumored to be going pro.

I think Davis is a SC-UGA battle as most on here have said. I also think that we could still get Davis even if Gurley goes to UNC or Clemson(which I believe are in his final 3).

I think Davis would start for you guys next year. Marshall and Crowell to me are the same kind of backs. They are speed backs. Davis is a power rusher but also have speed. From this year, it is obvious(at least to me) that Crowell cant take the pounding of being an everyday back. Marshall from what I have seen of him is similar to Crowell(same body mold). Davis is more built and stronger in-between the tackles than both of those.

I think Davis could redshirt next year(95% he wont) do to have Lattimore, Wilds, Carson, and Miles back and then have 2-3 years to start at USC and be the lead back. That wont happen at UGA. You guys have Marshall and Henry coming in 2013. Not saying Davis isnt a hard-worker but SC only gets 1 good back every 2-3 years while it seems UGA is getting 5-star RBs a lot lately.

Not to nitpick, but Crowell is more than a speed back. In fact, go back and watch the tape of the UGA/USC game and you will see plenty of physicality. He's not a bruiser like Lattimore or Davis, but rather more of a slasher with some breakaway ability. Calling him a speed back (see O. McCalebb at Auburn, DeAnthony Thomas at Oregon, Demps/Rainey at UF, and suggesting that he can't be an everydown back b/c of his performance as 18 year old freshmen is a bit premature...IMO

That being said, he def. needs to get tougher, bust his tail in the weight room, improve his work ethic and lose the sense of entitlement (which I think any combo of Marshall/Gurley or Davis will do) from what has been speculated...

I think if Gurley commits Friday, Davis is yalls to lose bro......

I think Davis is a lock no matter what Gurley does. I think Davis and Gurley are better backs than Marshall....keep in mind I still think KM is a good one though. I just like the other two kids film better

I was mainly referring to him being hurt a lot. He has missed parts of several games this season due to injuries. I thought he had one heck of a year for a freshmen. I was not trying to down play that though it also seemed like Bobo went away from him during critical times.

And I classify a slasher will breakaway speed as a speed back. I guess I have a flawed definition so that is why we differ but again I was mainly talking about his nagging injuries and the way Bobo seemed to not rely on him in the clutch. That is what I mean by an everydown back. When you need critical yards, you go to this back ala Richardson and Lattimore. It didnt seem like this past year, you guys did that with Crowell.

I'm hoping Gurley picks Georgia. Helps with Mike Davis.

  • If Gurley does not pick UGA on Fri, Davis will. Hes already said if he had to pick, its georgia(a week ago). The only way id concede him to being a cock lean ATP is cause most believe Gurley will choose UGA. Id prefer Davis, but happy with either one really.

And how do you know that? Maybe you need to go take a look at Clemson's Paul Strelow's latest tidbit. Nothing is ever a lock in reruiting but we are in this just as much as Georgia.

  • Am I wrong to think that we don't need Gurley and Davis?
I know we'll have two senior running backs next season that won't be around much longer. But with Crowell, Marshall, Gurley, and Henry ('13), I think we should be OK going forward.

Maybe I'm focusing too much on other areas of need. But if we're looking to cap this class with 25 spots, I'd rather throw more bodies in there at offensive line, S OLB, Safety, and ATH (you can never have too many Boykins on a squad).

  • All you have to do is look at all the games James Davis played to see u can't believe what mike is gonna do til he signs the dotted line. His brother played media and insider games and flipped right before he signed so that's my 2 cents.

That is wrong. I personally based on the last 3 years at RB would take Gurley and Davis to go with Marshall. But that would probably surely change up Henry's feelings and I would protect my decisions from doing that. But a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. You can't count on what happens in the next recruiting class. We have to get depth at RB immediately. We have to hope that Crowell can man up in the off season and move along past the nagging injuries that could be a problem for him his entire career but our running game can't live or die on him. Marshall will be able to assist but I don't know that he is an every down back either so you have to get someone else. Samuels and Malcolme are there but have been unreliable at best to this point.

  • From a depth chart sperspective, Davis would probably be smart to go with USC....Lattimore is all but gone after next year IMO...

You make a good point. Crowell isn't reliable (yet), Marshall is an unknown as is Gurley, and Samuel/Thomas won't get the job done by themselves (and are gone after next year anyway).

But if we logjam the position and expect the cream to rise to the top (and the rest to transfer) then we've basically spent 3 recruiting spots this year to net 1 to 2 backs.

I've always felt that if the blocking is there, the back will get his yards. Regardless of what number it is getting the reps.
Yet if Terrell Davis is getting hammered in the backfield 17 snaps a game, we're all gonna wonder who the next freshman phenom we will recruit is gonna be so we can have some success in the run game.

I'd rather logjam a position like offensive lineman, linebacker, and defensive back where you play more than 1 per snap.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. His mom has said all along that she wants him to get his degree. All of her kids have degrees. Also, with this injury he may stay as well.

Just my opinion, but if he comes back next year and is anywhere close to the back he was before, his earning potential will be at it's greatest after next year. He reminds me of LT, but with a helluva lot more power.

  • He can play in the NFL and get a degree. He is a RB and their self life is not long. Also he is a RB that has stayed injuried for the past two years. His self life may be very short.
