mark is mostly wrong about the transfer thing.

  • even though I think Carvell is trying to pick a fight about this, Mark is wrong in some ways about his transfer rule.

His intentions are all honorable, but he's going to get burned on this at some point.

I would permit a transfer to someone but not to any team in the SEC or to GT. I remember all too well that peckerhead john dewberry and how he transferred to Tech and had a large part in helping them beat us after that. No more.

Sorry.....I guess I'm just not that nice.

  • Can you name a player that has hurt us by transferring to a SEC school or GT, under Richt? Keep in mind that a situation like Mett transferring to JUCO and then wherever cannot be prevented. If you can't name one, why is it even worth worrying about?

  • I agree with CMR, life is too short. There are way more important things than college football, though all of us on this board love it very much. It's not worth it to limit a player's happiness and future just because a coach is selfish. If it doesn't work out for somebody, it doesn't work out, no hard feelings. If he wants to play at UF, Bama, Auburn, Tech, wherever, because he feels he has a better opportunity to better himself as a player and person for the future, then let him transfer. College sports are all about the athlete, though many, many, many people forget this, including the NCAA.

You're right. When CMR is the coach, things are going to be done in a certain way. It applies across the board, not just to one or two areas.
Besides, holding someone back from what they want is just bad form not to mention bad karma.

    100% agree

Richt is in the business of helping kids. He won't back down from doing what is right.

This stance helps in recruiting and doing the opposite would hurt because the kids know that they have a coach who is on their side. That increases loyalty.

I think it is an advantage that might not be easily seen in a tangible way

  • Richt is being paid to win games in case y'all didn't know that.

We all know Saban doesn't give these unconditional releases. Has that policy hurt Bama in recruiting? no. in fact, even his sorry treatment of kids ushering them out of the program if they can't break the 2 deep has NOT hurt him in recruiting.

I may not be able to name a person who has come back to haunt us because most of the time those kids have gone to smaller schools that we will never play.
but think about this.......do you want to right just to prove me wrong when we lose to a team that all of y'all think is no threat to us? Is it really worth that on your end of things?

The only one that is a threat to do damage right now is Mett and Richt could not have stopped that because Mett went JUCO 1st.

Not seeing any other problems looming

For one thing, I believe the chances of this happening are miniscule. Not only is the kid moving likely out of conference, but the teams kids go to are often in different football subdivisions altogether.

And if, by that slimmest of chances, we do lose to a D-II school, it will be by our current players' and coaches' fault, not the one player that we let transfer there. So all in all, letting these kids transfer whereever they like is and should be less of a strategic move than a humane one.

Most of the stuff people worry about, ain't never gonna happen anyway. Nine times out of ten when a player transfers it's because he can't see himself cracking the rotation. We shouldn't fear them guys.
