Once again I show my age.
I remember in 1958 when I was 10 watching the Summer Olympics and seeing Bob Beamon, who wan't even considered the top long jumper on the US team, break the world record by almost two feet. When he saw the distance on the scoreboard he put his hands to his face and collapsed to his knees with emotion. He later said he knew he made a good jump, but had no idea it was anything close to the world record, let alone shattering it.
