no flame dawgs..just an honest question

  • if you guys had saban as your coach with all that talent, how many SEC/MNCs would you have won in the last 5 years? i know richt is a great man and does a lot for the community, but what could a real enforcer get done with all that talent at his disposal?

    Hysterical!

Clearly, UGA is not committed to winning in the same way Bama is. That's not a knock on UGA; it's just a fact. Saban and Bama are a perfect pairing.....He gives a $hit about the rules, about common decency, integrity, etc....All he cares about is winning. And he'll win like nobody else in college football. I've said it before, if all you care about is winning (as Bama does) , there is no better fit than Nick Saban. None. He's the best there is at winning.

  • I would say 3. If the SECC got the automatic bid to the NC like they do today than we would of went in our 2 championship seasons. We would of went and won it in 2008 but then you could not go if u didn't win your conference, but now I guess u can. How many do you think y'all would have under Saban if Colt doesn't get hurt and the unwritten rule of having to win the SEC still applied? I would say none!!!

Same. Colt started out hot just like Brantley this year, mallet last year, etc. we were the far superior team

Talent and scheme take over after that first haymaker is thrown

  • Far superior team?? They fought back with a freshmen QB playing for the 1st time in the MNC. Just stop posting over here bc we far too bright for your education level. And please don't respond by saying you have a degree from Bama because frankly I got accepted there when I was 16 and hadn't even graduated high school yet!!

  • Ya know:

Saban is a mentor to CTG, Dontonio, Smart, Muschamp, Searels, among others. Obviously some of you do not understand the corporate business side of college sports. Saban gets it. It isn't a knock on Richt, but to say that Saban could care less about integrity, rules, etc is just spoiled milk.

I think Saban would do just as well as Richt with the talent.

Yes they did. Then Alabama proceeded to make him look like the freshmen he was and spank Texas. If you're going to speak the truth make sure it is the whole truth.

we SEVERELY let off the gas and let them sort of crawl back into it. we ran it like 60 times that game. it happens. if colt would have stayed in it would have been a good game but we would still win by 10+

I was at the game and Bama went into "cruise-control" after leading 24-6 at halftime......Unlike the Auburn game in 2010, Texas was not good enough to take advantage of Saban's conservative play-calling. If I recall correctly, Bama ran all running plays in the 3rd quarter.

The SEC is undefeated in BCS Championship Games and Colt McCoy's presence would have only impacted the outcome in that Bama wouldn't have been afforded the opportunity to go ultra-conservative. The Big 12 was NOT beating the SEC in that Title Game......so please do not use his injury as an OUT to predict that something that hasn't happened [SEC losing in the BCS Title Game] would have happened with McCoy in the game.

In terms of Richt, I have the utmost respect for him from a moral perspective....Honestly, much more so than I do Saban as I agree 100% that Saban has done some things that although within the rules...they were clearly done in a method to circumvent the rules and perhaps were morally and ethically wrong (ie. Oversigning and Medical Hardship Scholarships which have been done at rate and to players that weren't in the 2-deep......... that to a person with any objectivity it's obvious it was done to "cut" non-contributors).

With that said, as aforementioned...morally Saban's actions are questionable....However, you have to ask yourself what do you desire from your football program? Championships or Great Character.

    Personally, I'd prefer some middle-ground.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

That was the main cause of 3 losses in 2010. Still stings.

"Maybe" 2 losses in 2010.....but we were not winning that South Carolina game last year as we played horribly throughout. In fact, we opened up the offense due to South Carolina getting a double digit lead.

UGA has won 2 SEC Championships in 10 years. That is one more that Alabama. Also, UGA has played for more SEC Championships under the Richt era than Alabama. I am not making excuses but it seems every time UGA had a great year someone had a better one. 2002 UGA went 13-1 and was the best team in the country only to be left out because of two undefeated teams ahead of them. MIami and OSU. LOL. Also in 2007 Kirk Herby from ESPN made this rule (that doesn't exist) that you have to win your conference championship and we got left out again.

No I am not whinning but we have had our years like LSU and Alabama where unfortunately things didn't fall into place like it has for Alabama this year. That is just how it goes. But I could also see where we would could have 1 or 2 BCS titles. So don't sit here and think that UA is so much better or so far ahead of us.

  • Looking at it honestly. I think its really simple. There are teams in the SEC that are 100% commited to winning like their lives depended on it. In the God forsaken state of Alabama where the sole purpose of life is watching Tide and Tiger football there is a big advantage due to the commitment. This makes up for the fact that they have to troll other states to win. Bama, like Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, Vandy, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Miss State has to poach other states to get players. To some extent they can do that succesfully even in the few and far between instances where they are not cheating. When they are succesful is when they start cheating and load up the talent pool. Saban is perfect for Bama. he is a great coach and would cut his mama's throat to win a football game. He oversignes and pisses on the kids when they dont pan out. He is making twice as much as Mark Richt also.
There is nothing wrong with this if you could give a crap about ethics or kids.
Now from an on the field perspective I think Saban is a genious defensively. He really is. I think anytime you combine good recruiting, buying players, and sound defense you are going to win games and alot of them. He wins with defense and is the best at it. Offensively at Alabama its a border line joke how they waste all those top recruiting classes. Has Saban every had a ALL-SEC QB? For all the 4 and 5 star QB's he signs what happens to them? If I was a great HS QB the last place I would go would be Bama or any Saban team.
Richt on the other hand when he is most succesful wins with defense and QB play. He always has a good QB who knows what the heck he is doing. Richts problem is keeping enough talent. He loses alot of guys early to the draft because he tells them to do whats best for them instead of what 99% of the other coaches including Saban would do which is tell the kid he isnt read. That is a negative of Richt if its all about titles.
Richt also doesnt oversign and cull kids. This is a gigantic advantage. Quick who are the top 2 teams in the last 4 years that signed the most players? Suprise suprise its Bama and LSU. Nothing wrong with oversigning. There is something wrong with screwing a kid over. Spurrier does this but gets less heat because he wins alot less. Same goes for Houston Nutt.
So with less players, cheating coaches in border states poaching in state kids, and a regard for academics and eithics I would say Richt has done a dang good job. Not perfect because he was too loyal to Martinez and Van Halenger but he did correct that. We will never win huge unless we start cheating or oversigning on a regular basis. But I will take what he has done which is 4 Championship game appearances in 11 seasons which is tied for with the king of kinds Nick Saban. Wow there is a hidden stat for you.
So to answer your question if all things were equal I think they wouldve won the same amount of titles but all things are not and will not be equal unless we start cheating which would be a Bammers worst nightmare since you have to poach Georgia to win big.
I remember back in 01 when people said UGA shouldnt expect to be as good as UT and UF. We shouldnt have fired Donnan and I said it then. UF can and should always be great because of their build in advantages. But UT has to poach to win and if they are cut off from their honey holes which at the time were Georgia, South Carolina, and NC then they would be screwed. And that is exactly what happened. Only LSU and UF have the same built in advantage UGA has. But Bama will always be good because they will "commit" to winning big regardless of rules and ethics.
